NEWS AND UPDATES

The following changes in Australian immigration take effect on 1 July 2018:

  1. Visa fees and charges increased - www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/visa/fees
  1. Specific visa changes
  • Partner and Prospective Marriage visas (sc820/801, 309/100 & 300) must be lodged online via ImmiAccount. Applications made in person or paper-based will not be accepted.
  • Parent visa applications (sc103, 804, 173/143, 884/864) must be sent by post or courier to the Perth Visa and Citizenship Office. Applications made in person are no longer accepted.
  • Other family visa applications: Carer (sc116 and 836), Remaining Relative (sc115 and 835), and Aged Dependent Relative (sc114 and 838) must be sent by post or courier to the Perth Visa and Citizenship Office. Payments of visa fees can be made online through the ImmiAccount.
  • Paper-based Tourist Stream Visitor visa (sc600) must be sent by post to: Department of Home Affairs, Onshore Visitor Visa Processing, GPO Box 9984, Sydney, NSW 2001 Australia; or by courier to: Department of Home Affairs, Onshore Visitor Visa Processing, Level 3, 26 Lee Street, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia.
  • Sponsored Family Stream Visitor visa (sc600) must be sent by post to: Department of Home Affairs, SFVPC, GPO Box 9984, Sydney, NSW 2001, Australia; or by courier to: Department of Home Affairs, SFVPC, Level 3, 26 Lee Street, Sydney, NSW 2000, Australia.
 
  1. General Skilled Migration visas sc189, 190 and 489 – minimum points raised to 65.

  1. New Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) lodged after the introduction of TSS on 18 March 2018 can be linked to an existing 457 nomination and visa application based on MIA news-- https://www.mia.org.au/.

Clarifications on recent changes based on enquires received :

1. 1 July 2017 – IELTS 6 in each band or equivalent for all 186 temporary transitional entry and Direct Entry
2. 1 July 2017 – age limit to not older than 45 for main applicant for SC186 and SC187 visa – direct entry only
3. March 2018 - 3 years of work experience required for SC186, 187 visa
4. March 2018 – SC457 will be abolished.
5. MLTSSL list does not impact on 457 visa holders who can still apply for 186 visa under employment nomination transitional arrangement up to March 2018.
6. 457 subsequent entrants ( spouse and children ) of 457 visa holder will have the same visa period as the primary visa holder. .



DIBP up -date information on student visa :

1. Between 1 January and March 2017, over 111,000 student visas applications were finalized at DIBP, an increase of 18.9 per cent than same time last year.
2. Visa applications should be lodged at least six weeks before the course starts.
3. Complete application with all supporting documentation submitted at the same time is preferred.
4. DIBP may not ask for further information before decision, hence possible refusal if documentation is not complete.
5. “ latest practical start date” should be inserted in the “comments” section of the COE, DIBP has not obligation to request for new CoE or late arrival letter.
6. Complete “my health declaration” before lodging visa application
7. Generate only one HAP ID for medicals.
8. Include all CoE codes in the application.
9. From 1 July 2017, DIBP fees for the primary applicant will be increased to:
  • Student visa (subclass 500) and Student Guardian visa (subclass 590) will increase to $560.00;
  • Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) will increase to $1500.00;
  • Training visa (subclass 407) will increase to $280.00.
